The Google Monopoly

For a quasi-monopoly of a company must have sufficient control over the service or product they offer. A monopoly will have little or no competition for economic goods and services they provide. Like many search marketers discovered, Google quickly control the market for online search and are clearly the dominant force.

There are big questions were raised about how Google was able to get such a strangle hold on the large market research. Google now controls about 70% of the search market and the main question that arises is whether the company played by the rules to gain this much control.

In recent years Google has managed to share research away from other key players take. The market share in 2002 was relatively even with Google, Yahoo and MSN each with approximately 25%. The rest of the market share was mainly divided between AOL and Ask.com.

Since that time, however, while Google has introduced, but the control of the search market. Yahoo! now takes just over 15% market share, while MSN has dropped to below 10%. Google with an early monopoly on the market search, we will explore how this may affect Internet users.

Monopolies control rules

If Google is able to complete control of the search market, or will they be able to make the rules, regulations and guidelines to establish if they wish. In short, even if you do not like the rules you have no choice but to them, because there simply are no other options to accept. In fact, it would be possible for Google to punish you if you do not follow their rules and take your site from the index.

Ability to Dictate price

Google is setting the standards of pay per click advertising is not much to their success in this market to increase substantially if a large part of market research may take. With the domination of this market, it would be possible for Google to artificially inflate prices to pay per click. If that happens the market would not have much choice but to pay money or to stop advertising.

Unreasonable demands

It is quite possible Google is increasingly difficult, if not unreasonable when it comes to listing your site in their search engine. There are rumors around the Internet as a monopoly of Google, you need information about your site before they can be integrated. In May the same time, it is possible for Google to control the information that travels over the Internet. Even if Google is able to take full control, there will be little chance for a competitor, because they know that most things that happen online for someone else.

Possible Corruption

It is something that maybe could lie in the future for Google with the fact that a legal person. All information that we collect from your business is kept secret, because it's the right thing for their business. However, the past has shown that other monopolies that this "good thing" for their customers is not always good for business. Any stimulus that Google should do the right thing for their customers could possibly go away if they take more market share.

At the end of the day, even if Google was able to 100% of the search market control, I do not think much will change the way things are now. I say this because if they do decide to exercise their monopoly power, I think they will soon be arrested and users of tools like Google do not turn away en masse nothing to do with the policy unfair. But I do not think MSN or Yahoo will be able to regain market share. Instead, someone will have an opportunity for Google to remove it from the top to something new and much better.
