Getting Familiar With SEO
Everyone knows that advertising your online business can get very expensive. Especially if you are using Pay Per Click (PPC) through google or yahoo. It seems that with lots of money you only get a little traffic and then only a very small percentage of them buy. So why waste all that money using PPC when you can do the same thing they are doing for FREE by using Search Engine Optimization or SEO.
SEO is a very simple concept to understand. Basically what you are doing is using all of your knowledge and techniques to get around having to pay all that money to get on the top pages of the search engines. Now everyone wants to guarantee you the #1 spot. But let us be honest and think about this. EVERYONE can't be #1 so that should show you that they are simply just trying to "pull the wool over your eyes" or make you believe that you will be #1, when in fact what they really mean is you can be within the first 10 pages of the major search engines.
So what should you do to start our SEO process today? Well, there are many search engines out there that people all over the world use to look up the information they are trying to find. So I suggest you start by searching free website submissions in yahoo or Google and start submitting your website to EVERY search engine you can. Please note that submitting your site more then once to the same search engine is NOT going to help. It is actually better to only submit your site once especially in one day.
Building Site Maps is another one of the ways you can get a jump start to your SEO building process. Yahoo and Google both have a site map builder that you can use for Free. All you have to do is enter you website address and copy the code and paste it somewhere within your websites HTML. Site Maps help the web crawlers find you on the server and continues to update your information every time you update your website.
Be sure that when building your website that you enter your keywords, Meta tags, and page descriptions into the page properties for each and EVERY page on your website. This is best to be started at the beginning of the website building process. To find keywords that are used the most often and have the highest click rates you can use a tool that yahoo offers for free called the keyword search tool. Go through the list and carefully select the most popular and relevant keywords to enter.
Finally the most important key is to update often. Updating your website on a daily basis not only keeps your readers and regular visitors interested but it also keeps the attention of the web crawlers. The crawlers notice that there is fresh new material added to your site frequently which shows that it is an active website. When you don't update frequently and your website becomes stagnate the search engines will show it when your rankings drop. The more you update the better off you are.
